Read collective agreement scales, then build your own pay scale.

In the app, collective agreement scales sit next to market pay. You then set the grades for your jobs and see what it costs to bring each job up to target.

This page shows no collective agreement scale. They are in the app.

How to read a pay scale

A pay scale sets the lowest and the highest pay for a job. Jobs of similar value share a grade, with a minimum, a midpoint and a maximum.

The midpoint follows the market level you aim for. The minimum and maximum limit what a person earns within the grade. All your grades together make up your salary structure.

A collective agreement often splits its scale into steps: one rate per year of service, from the first step to the last. Your structure can follow that pattern or keep one minimum and one maximum per grade.

Example: four job grades, in dollars per hour
GradeMinimumMidpointMaximum
Grade 1$18.50$21.25$24.00
Grade 2$21.00$24.15$27.30
Grade 3$24.50$28.18$31.85
Grade 4$28.75$33.05$37.35

Build yours in five steps

  2. Place each grade.Against market pay in your province and region.
  3. Choose your target. The median, the 75th percentile or any other, from the 1st to the 99th.
  4. Set the limits.A minimum and a maximum per grade, around the midpoint.
  5. Price it.What it costs to bring each job up to your target.
